In the year 2510.....

In brief, my idea for the final design / art / concept piece dealing with Islais Creek will be to imagine the watershed area in San Francisco 500 years in the future as changed in a compelling way. Compelling the audience perhaps to change their ways, if they are contributing to the problem. Perhaps to redouble their efforts if they feel they are 'part of the solution.'

Is it degraded? Is it absolutely utopic? Is it exactly the same?

How do I represent this?

What format do I take to be original / different from my classmates?

How do I inform / entertain / persuade my audience and still be grounded in something substantial?

While I wrestle with these questions I investigate futurism, evolution, bio-diversity....

One idea that I am steering towards is to re-invision the area in the theater of digital cinema. To do a walking video tour of a completely utopian 'Garden of Islais'

In a future of invasive species and catastrophic climatic change outside of protected areas, Islais Creek watershed might exist as a place offering complete and perfect bio-diversity.

A sheltered bio-dome of gardens of every type of fruit imaginable, cross-bred, perfect, sweet and delicious.

A futuristic zoo of exotic but tame animals that can be ridden, played with, and perhaps even conversed with.

A 'pleasure-dome' of recreational substances, where the futuristic visitor can eat psychadelic mushrooms, smoke medicinal plants, and completely get zonked as part of a national park experience.

Perhaps nudism and an 'Adam and Eve' type of experience is encouraged.......

I may make a comp or poster and get bored with this concept and then take it to another direction.

Another intriguing possibility is to imagine the world with much higher sea levels.

something like... ' visit the beautiful Islais fjords...'

Yet another idea is to reimagine the area as completely given back to the ohlone / costanoan people because the native people of the US are seen as much more valuable to the culture as they are now...

perhaps there are heaps of wickiup huts throughout the islais area?
